Folder Utility allows you to quickly determine the size of folders and sub-folders on your hard drive. Just drag a folder onto the Folder Utility shortcut to display the size of the folder and all the folders contained in that folder in a tree structure.
Keep an exact copy of a folder and all its contents on a separate drive or network drive. Use the compare operation to determine which files have been changed or added. Use the Update operation to copy only the files that have been changed to the backup (target) folder from the main (source) folder.
Keep a commulative backup folder on another drive. Set the compare Don't show missing from source option and view only the files that are Update Append to Target method to add the changed and new files to the backup (target) directory.
Folder Utility allows the following renaming schemes on all files in a folder that match a wildcard specification (e.g. *.* for all, *.mp3 for all mp3 files).
| Rename Method | Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| JPG Date | Add photo taken date | Camera and Photo Editor used to edit the photos must support this information. The date is added in a yyyy mm dd format so the files can be easily sorted by the date the picture was taken. |
| Modify | Replace text and/or add the same text to the beginning and/or end of the file name | Can be used to replace a misspelled word in multiple file names |
| Number | Add a number to the file name based on the creation date & time | MP3 songs that are ripped in order from a CD will be numbered so they sort in the same order as on the CD. They will then be played in CD order by most MP3 CD players. |
| Case chg | Change file name and/or extension to upper or lower case | Unix web systems use case sensitive file systems. It's simpler to use single case file names and extensions for web links and files on these systems. |
