29 Card Arizona Pitch

29 Card Arizona Pitch is a card game from the old West and played in Eastern Arizona at the turn of the century.

It uses a deck of 29 cards (Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 6 of each suite and one Joker that is a trump between the 10 and Jack).

Players bid on the number of points they can take. Points are:

High Trump played

Low Trump played

Winning the Joker

Winning the Jack

Winning the most game count

(For game count, 10’s count 10, Aces 4, Kings 3, Queens 2, Jacks 1, other cards 0)

The person that wins the bid determines trumps and pitches out the first card. Players must either play a trump or follow suite. If the team doesn’t win as many points as they bid, they go set and lose the number of points that they bid. Five cards are Sleepers so the Jack and Joker points may not be available.
